About Above & Beyond

Above and Beyond Flight Training

Ray and Liz created Above & Beyond as a different approach to training for qualified and experienced PPLs. We know from talking to many such pilots, that what is needed is more than the usual recipe of a biennial flight with an instructor. PPLs already know the routine for club checkouts and familiarisation or conversion flights - though we can do all of those too!

What you are mostly looking for is a way to regain former enthusiasm for flying and to recapture the confidence to use your licence by actually going somewhere.

Many PPLs don't need to be re-taught the basics over and over again but at the same time, don't want to overstretch themselves. They just want to fly safely and without fear of infringing. They want to enjoy the benefits of their hard-earned licences. Trouble is, that they find themselves flying to the same places time and again...and eventually, the novelty wears off and the enthusiasm wanes.

SO, TALK TO US ...and we can go somewhere different and learn something along the way

-
New airfields for new pilots, or cross-country skills refreshed for those who’ve already been around the block.
-
New destinations for a cuppa and a bite. Or cross the channel for coffee and croissants.
-
You know how you always mean to use those free landing vouchers from the magazines? Well now you can finally get around to doing it in the company of an experienced CRI.
-
From unmarked grass fields to international airports, there is a huge number of destinations waiting to offer you new experiences. Routes that take you across controlled airspace or stay in Class G all have something to teach you. Whether a day trip or a longer tour takes your fancy, get in touch with Above and Beyond.

We have flown into scores of different airfields in England, Scotland (including the islands), Wales, France, Luxembourg and Germany. We help and encourage you to visit at least 50 different airfields within two years of passing PPL. The typical private pilot visits three or four airfields during training and probably another three or four within the following two years, after which psychological boundaries are created as confidence wanes and comfortable habits are formed. There is a much wider world of air to explore, starting at your flying club.
